Since time began man has been struggling with his secular life and his spiritual life. And this painting is called ‘The Equation’, all religions are based on sort of an equation, rituals and so forth. All these symbols are ancient religions made out of twigs, shells and rocks. This man is already creating the cross, but we are already looking in different directions, so he’s already trying to find another religion.

They say that there are over 170 religions around the world. So, everyone asks, which one is correct? All of them are correct, I think if you just believe then that’s all that is necessary, rituals don’t really matter except to reinforce your own belief. I did this painting in 1993, its 40 x 30 inches and its oil on canvas.
